Dr Nikki Carthy

Dr Nikki Carthy is a Chartered Psychologist and Senior Lecturer in Psychology. She holds leadership roles as Chair of the Ethics Committee and Programme Lead for Trauma-Informed Practice. She is an active member of the British Psychological Society’s Division of Forensic Psychology and a committee member for the Male Psychology Section.

Dr Carthy’s research centres on trauma, violence, and victimisation across the lifespan, with expertise in gender-based violence and justice system responses. Her current work explores marginalised victim groups—including older adults, men, and same-sex partnerships—and promotes trauma-informed approaches in mental health, education, offender rehabilitation, and policing. She has collaborated with police forces on offender profiling, investigative decision-making, and improving outcomes for child victims and rape survivors.

She is a trained Triangle Intermediary and sits on RASSO and Domestic Abuse expert panels with the Crown Prosecution Service. Formerly Chair of EVA Women’s Aid, she led the 45+ project for older survivors. She is currently a Trustee for Mankind Initiative and advisor to the Centre for Policy Research for Men and Boys.
