Dr Eric Awich Ochen

Dr Eric Awich Ochen is a Senior Lecturer in Social Work and Social Administration at Makerere University, Uganda. He completed his PhD at the University of Huddersfield, UK, where his research focused on young women’s experiences of conflict and reintegration in Northern Uganda. Dr Ochen has held post-doctoral fellowships at the Universities of Cambridge and Bradford and served as an Honorary Senior Lecturer under the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission. His professional background includes work with international organisations such as War Child Canada, Save the Children Denmark, World Vision, and UN agencies including DFID, USAID, UNHCR, UNDP, and UNICEF. His research spans social development, gender and protection, peacebuilding, child rights, and rural livelihoods. He has published widely in peer-reviewed journals and contributed chapters to books by Routledge, Sage, Springer, and Indiana University Press. Dr Ochen also serves as a reviewer for the British Journal of Social Work and the Journal of Child Abuse and Neglect. Committed to community transformation, he sits on the board of the Acholi Community Empowerment Network, supporting women and widows affected by conflict in Northern Uganda.
